Today, Graeme Sandford gave me this prompt to work with:
A strange change occurring overnight in your flat – but, you can’t work out what it is – it’s…?
Here is my offering:
There’s a strange thing going bump in the night;
I turn on the light to see.
There are changes afoot, I can feel in my bones,
but I don’t know what they could be.
There’s a strange thing going bump in the night;
my body is wracked with pain.
Something feels wrong; yet it all feels so right –
my energy’s starting to drain.
There’s a strange thing going bump in the night;
I’m starting to hear the cries.
There are changes afoot; I can feel in my loins.
Try to sleep, but I can’t close my eyes.
There’s a strange thing going bump in the night;
it’s nothing that I have arranged.
Yet here is the proof, beneath my night clothes;
never was there such a strange change.
Now there’s a baby that cries in the night;
an unexpected surprise.
You’d never have known to look at the bump
we’d thought was from eating mince pies.
