NaPoWriMo: Day Eighteen

Basic RGB

Why did you have to take my mind
Lock me up, throw away the key
To ease your insecurity
Create all kinds of insanity

Why did you have to take my body
Leave me nursing open wounds
Covering up the blacks and blues
Realise, there was only you

Why did you have to open my eyes
When my ignorance was bliss
I couldn’t hear the evil hiss
Until I felt your fatal kiss

Why did you have to adore my soul
Put me on your pedestal
The only thing I did was fall
When I reached out to grab it all

Why did you have to project yourself
Say it was for me when it was for you
Thought that I could not see through
The lies you told; the secrets, too

For men I’ve loved, who’ve gone before
And those who are, and who will be
The one who taught my eyes to see
The one who gave me words to speak
The one who showed me how to think
The one who shared his love of drink
The one who calmed my restless heart
The one who made my life his art

I think of you all, one by one
My flock of men; birds of a feather
Six individual entities on their own
Making one whole, when we come together

The NaPoWriMo Tanka

Five men of my world
Challenges on a lifepath
Learned great lessons
I extend my gratitude
Without you, I would not be
